Rights & Responsibilities of Parents

At Bryanston Parallel Medium Pre-Primary School, we believe that a strong partnership between home and school is vital to the well-being, development, and success of every child. This Code of Conduct sets out the expectations for all parents and caregivers to ensure a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment for children, staff, and families.

1.  Respectful Communication

  • Parents are expected to treat all staff, children, and other families with respect, courtesy, and kindness at all times.
  • Aggressive, threatening, or disrespectful language or behaviour towards staff, children, or other parents will not be tolerated.
  • Concerns or complaints should be addressed calmly and appropriately through the correct communication channels (e.g., by arranging a meeting with a teacher or the principal).

 

2.  Interaction with Children

  • Parents are not permitted to discipline, reprimand, or scold any child other than their own while on school grounds or during school events.
  • If a parent observes behaviour that is concerning, it should be reported to a staff member immediately rather than addressed directly with the child or their family.

 

3.  Rights of Parents

All parents have the right:

  • To actively participate, wherever possible, through constructive involvement in the governance and life of the school.
  • To request, should they so wish, a meeting with any educator or member of the management staff, through the correct procedure, which is to telephone the Secretary or apply in writing.
  • To be treated with respect and dignity by staff and other
  • To request meetings with staff or management to discuss their child’s development, well-being, or any concerns.
  • To participate in the life of the preschool through events, volunteering opportunities, and parent
  • To receive regular communication from the school regarding their child’s progress and school

4.  Responsibilities of Parents

All parents have the responsibility:

  • To ensure that the learner obeys the school’s code of conduct, regulations, and
  • To ensure their child arrives on time each day and is collected promptly after school or at
  • To notify the school in advance if their child will be absent, especially in the case of illness or family emergencies.
  • To keep children at home when they are unwell and inform the school of any contagious
  • To ensure that the learner does not miss school unless GENUINELY
  • To ensure their child arrives at school well-fed, clean, and dressed appropriately, with all necessary items clearly labelled.
  • To read all communication from the school and respond to forms, permissions, and notices in a timely manner.
  • To inform the school of any changes in the child’s home environment or health that may affect their behaviour or well-being.

5.  Safety and Security

  • Parents must follow all security and drop-off/pick-up

6.  Confidentiality and Privacy

  • Respect the privacy of all children and families within the school
  • Do not discuss other children or families in a negative or judgmental

 

7.  Commitment to Positive Partnership

  • Parents are encouraged to work collaboratively with teachers and staff to support their child’s
